Costumes
We wanted to represent James (Alex Harrington) as a normal, everyday, working-class man. Therefore we aimed for his costume to be generic of this status and socio-economic class, we chose this character as we knew it would relate to the audience due to their similarities. James' character was generically dressed in a formal suiting, in which he had plain black trousers, t-shirt, tie and jacket. However as the opening progressed, we altered his costume to suggest he had been beaten up and violently attacked therefore we ripped his shirt and added fake blood to convey this effect.
Similarly to James' original costume, my costume for my piece was extremely similar, I wanted to be seen as a stereotypical door-to-door salesman, without suggesting that I was actually part of the kidnapping plot. Therefore deceiving the audience. My costume consisted of a plain blue shirt with a blue tie - a stereotypical working class citizens outfit.
For the characters of George and Dan, we wanted to create something mysterious and threatening, they were both dressed similarly to take away personality and real character — dehumanising them to convey the fact that they were the antagonists. Both were dressed in plain black trousers, with a shirt and black tie and a two-hole Balaclava to create that scary intimidating effect. Similar to this, the mafia boss in which Dan portrayed was dressed similar to the masked men however he had a twist, his mouth was covered with safety pins to really threaten and scare the audience - as well as highlight his importance and leadership amongst the other masked men.
